What I’m up to Now
Work#
- Retired. Open to part-time engagement on software projects.
- Using Claude Code, I’m exploring what it even means for an app to be “an app” anymore. I mean, Claude Code + a sqlite db can get you really far. And it can create and re-create new UI on-demand. So, again, what is an app? I’m 30+ projects deep on this question.
- I was inspired by An app can be a home-cooked meal.
- I made an iOS app just for my family. See Building River
- I made another iOS app to edit my Tiller transactions in Google Sheets. See Another Home-Cooked Meal App
- One step further, I made a “dark factory” to create more family apps. See The App Factory
Back Burner#
- Creating this voidstar.org site. Slowly.
Life#
- One kid in college and one finishing high school. The nest is already feeling a bit more empty. It’s bittersweet, but we’re looking forward to our next phase of the family.
- Pampering our standard poodle.
- I exercise regularly, though not enough. Unlike my younger years, I’m succeeded more than failing. Though just barely. Also, age brings with it one more challenge: minor exercise injuries happen more often and heal more slowly!
Reading/Listening/Viewing#
- Always looking for more good Sci-fi. Libby brings me gems from my local library once in a while.
- Podcasts in regular rotation: The Vergecast, MBMBaM, The Adventure Zone, What Went Wrong, 20,000 Hz.
